The State of American Business 2009
On behalf of the National Chamber Foundation, I'd like to express our appreciation to Keith White and all the folks at Congressional Quarterly for partnering with us on this event.
Thanks also to the economists and other participants who are going to give us their conventional and hopefully unconventional wisdom this morning.
Many of you know that we begin each New Year at the Chamber trying to take stock of the current state of business and what lies ahead for the U.S. economy. We lay out an ambitious agenda and try to handicap our prospects for getting things done in Washington. We pull all this together in an annual State of American Business report, which you should have at your places.
We've been doing this report for 11 years now and this year has been the toughest.
Our nation is in a recession. Over 2 million Americans lost their jobs last year and about $7 trillion dollars in shareholder wealth has disappeared.
