From Exclusion to Empowerment
'm so honored to be here and to be included in this Chinese American Women Oral History Project. This Project opens a window to the past. What we see and the voices we hear are at once personal and emotionally compelling. Through this exhibit we can better understand the forces that have shaped our own identities.
This was the mission of the Schlesinger Library and the Chinese Historical Society of New England. I know people in generations to come will find this an invaluable resource.
Let me extend my personal gratitude to the Exhibit Committee, which includes participants in the Chinese American Women Oral History Project and members of Schlesinger Library staff.
Today I'll talk about the ways exclusion, participation and empowerment shaped not just my life, but the lives of all Chinese people living in America.
