We Can't Sit Around and Do Nothing
A major focus of your AMA since last we met involvedaggressive campaign to stop the 5 percent across-the-board cut in physician reimbursement announced by CMS [Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services] and scheduled for Jan. 1, 2007. This cut would directly affect Medicare and Tricare patients. Furthermore, depending upon your specialty and conduct of practice, a physician could face total cuts of 6 to 20 percent next year alone.
The AMA is following a multifaceted plan focused first upon public education, and then upon lobbying Congress and the Administration. The cornerstone of this effort has been the AMA House Call. This is a program that we have utilized for several years, but which has undergone continuous refinement and improvement. The House Call is an intensive visit to several cities within a chosen state over a period of two to three days It is made by an Officer or Trustee and key Staff.
