On October 27 and 28, Vital Speeches of the Day will hold Leadership Communication Days, a collegial, candid and purposeful meeting of executive communication managers, senior speechwriters and others dedicated to helping leaders lead.

Over two days at AARP's headquarters in Washington, D.C., participants will share their most instructive successes, hear from their most forward-thinking peers, ask advice for their most pressing problems and help one another solve the vexing problems only executive communicators share.

Meanwhile, during rigorous discussions and casual meetings over meals and cocktails, they'll begin to build a strong professional network among dispersed and otherwise isolated colleagues.

What we’ll do at Leadership Communication Days

Day One is Best Practice day

After a keynote case-study on executive communication strategy and tactics in the high-octane public policy world of AARP, attendees will share their current best practices—what they're doing that's working, what they're planning that's exciting.

The sharing of best practices will be nourished by an informal luncheon conversation about thought leadership and platform development with special guest Carol Ballock, who heads up Weber Shandwick's respected C-suite Executive Visibility practice. In the afternoon, we’ll gather for a session led by the creators of the Speakcheck® diagnostic tool on the value of applying quantitative analytics to speeches, and then broaden our discussion to focus on best practices for evaluating and coaching communicators in general.

After the long day of meetings, it's cocktails and dinner and comfortable conversation in a private room at the District ChopHouse.

Day Two is Problem-Solving Day

Everyone shares his or her biggest troubles and most intractable problems, and gets suggestions and often wholesale solutions from the only people in the world who have the answers—fellow executive communication professionals.

Also on this day, legendary political speechwriter Robert Lehrman will spark a sharp dialogue by sharing his unconventional ideas about how good speechwriting gets done. And event moderator David Murray
will end the event on a thrilling note with an all-new version of his "Speechwriting Jam Session," an inspiring and instructive series of samples from great speeches, culled from everywhere under the rhetorical sun.
